The California sun, bees and flowers.

Allison started living a life closer to nature when she moved to Big Sur in 2011. She became interested in a non-toxic lifestyle. Organic food and farming became very important to her so it only made sense that the products she used in her home and on her body were healthy for her and the planet.

She started to wonder where the beeswax from the candles she was buying was coming from. She was inspired to source her beeswax from California beekeepers and make candles from only California beeswax. She now beekeeps as well so she can be part of the whole process.

Each candle is dipped by hand in her home studio in a canyon off of the Big Sur coast. They are dipped in small batches. A central wick is dipped into melted beeswax until the desired width is reached. Each candle is pure beeswax and a cotton wick.

Beeswax is the only wax that is naturally occurring and biodegradable. It cleans the air by emitting negative ions. It is made by worker honeybees that are 12-16 days old. It is secreted from 8 wax producing glands on there abdomen. To produce one pound of wax, they consume 8-10 pounds of honey and visit over 30 million flowers. They use the beeswax to make hexagonal honeycomb to store their food and babies.

When honey is harvested from the comb, a very thin layer is scraped off to allow the honey to flow out. The scraps are saved and cleaned then melted to begin the dipping process.

Thank you to all the bees, flowers, and sunlight that make these candles possible. May they bring warm light into your heart and home.
